Observation of Blood Pressure inLiver Cirrhosis

Abstract
Blood pressure observations were made on 201 cases of liver cirrhosis who were admitted to the Seoul National University Hospital between January 1959 and June 1962. The results obtained by this study were summarized as follows:
1) The average blood pressures of patients with cirrhosis of the liver were considerably lower than those of otherwise normal Korean and this difference was more pronounced in systolic blood pressure.
2) The incidence of hypertension in patients with liver cirrhosis was remarkably low in comparison with the control series when systolic blood pressure alone is considered. However, there was no difference in incidence of hypertension between the patients with liver cirrhosis and the normal control series when the diastolic blood pressure alone is considered.
3) The everage blood pressures in patients with cirrosis of the liver were constantly low regardless of the severity of the cirrhosis, and the most of mild cases were found in the range of relativly higher degree of systolic blood pressure than of severe cases.
4) No correlation was noted between the blood pressure level and the serum albumin, globulin, hemoblobin, the presence of jaundice, ascites, and the bleeding history esophageal varices.
